Did you know that 80% of Australians have implicit bias towards people with disability?
That’s 4 out of 5 people.
People with disability experience discrimination and bias daily, which can affect their access to healthcare, employment, education, and the wider community.
We are not aware of our implicit biases, and they can show up in the words we use, the decisions we make, and the interactions we have. This can detrimentally affect people with disability.
This training has been designed specifically for health professionals and NDIS workers to explore our own implicit biases, values, and how these are likely affecting our work with people with disability.
The training is evidence-based and delivered through a lived experience lens. It is interactive, reflective, and involves discussions within groups.
This training will:
Provide an overview of disability from a lived experience perspective.
Explain models of disability and how these may be affecting your work.
Provide insight into your own implicit biases and values.
Explore how to mitigate the effects of implicit bias when working with people with disability.
Explain how implicit biases lead to negative assumptions and care provided to
people with disability.
Provide practical strategies to reduce the effects of implicit bias.
Explore how evidence-based practices apply specifically to people with disability including trauma-informed practice and intersectionality.
You will receive:
Access to a validated measure of implicit bias where you will be able to objectively uncover your own implicit bias towards people with disability.
Reflective practices to continue your learning and exploration after the training.
Practical resources and tools to utilise in your practice or organisation.
